The Texas Legislature is now in session. Joe Straus has been reelected as Speaker of the Texas House. While Straus described himself as a moderate Republican two years ago, he has now declared himself to be a pro-life conservative in order to win reelection in a House that has a record 101 Republican members as a result of the historic election.
Straus has said that he understands the voters asked for a more conservative, limited government and he plans to deliver on that. Governor Perry and Lt. Governor David Dewhurst also pledged to move a conservative agenda forward. The campaigns and elections are over, and now the difficult work of governing will take place. Citizens must be just as informed and willing to take action in the governing process as in the election process.
