Restore Parental Rights in Texas

For several years THSC has been working hard to change the law to protect the fundamental right of parents to direct the care, control and education of their children. We made this a major issue in the last election cycle through THSC PAC and, with the help of the Texas home school community, educated many legislators on this issue.

Parents should not lose their fundamental right as parents simply because their spouses die or they are divorced. We have documented numerous horrible situations in which families are decimated and children harmed. Now we have a chance to change the law.

HB 2557, the Texas Parental Rights Restoration Act, will be heard in front of the House Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence Committee on Monday, March 28, at 2 p.m., at E2.120. Attorneys and parents who have had experience with these situations will give verbal and written testimony at that time.

If you do not know your state representative, you can find who represents you here. If your state representative is a member of the Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence Committee, please contact his or her office by phone or email and ask them to support HB 2557. This issue is critical; the safety of many children and families will be ensured if this bill becomes law.
